There’s our culture– its pursuits and values, its over the top need to be entertained and pampered, its greed and violence and pride…and then there are these strange-sounding beatitudes. Just by taking the time to consider one a week, it has become so much more apparent how upside down each one is. They can’t be pimped. That’s weird. How much does my culture set my thinking and acting? Together can we reconnect with Jesus’ heart and become “blessed are those…”? I think together we can remind and encourage each other because it will take a lot of support to live upside down.

the part i have liked the most is just the reminder of how counter-cultural the beatitudes and the sermon on the mount is to everything the world (and sometimes ‘the church’) tells us about what is successful, valuable, important. the ways of the kingdom are so radical!! i love them but am so challenged by what they really mean for my life, our community. i have really loved this series and all of the different voices into the conversation!
