mike said:
when did this modern version of church change? if i'm reading my bible correctly, i see Jesus condemning the pharisees (rich keepers of every single law. even the ones they made up. giving the appearance of having it all together) and hanging with the stinky, the sinners, the whores, unbelievers, mentally deranged, demon possessed, broken people. today it is the pharisees the church seems to court and the broken sinner they seem to shame. i'm not a theologian, but i'm thinking this must break Gods heart. personally i trust the real broken people more than the slick, have it all together people and would much rather spend my time with them, because, you see, i am one of them.

I spent labor day on the road and I was blown away by how many 100,000 dollar boats were being pulled by the latest greatest SUV. I was wondering how many of those drivers were Christians who were buying into the "prosperity" gospel, who were going to the lake and said they will get the sermon they missed on podcast!

We are missing the point in the modern church...big time!

T.V. evangelists seem to have all the answers--so self-assured while they prey on the weak and vulnerable. Just send in your money, and everything will be fine.

God wants us to be wealthy, huh? So that we can practice squeezing through the eye of a needle? It is sad to see the new age "prosperity" obsession creeping into Christianity. Yeah, greed is good--that must've been the parable that got excised from the NT, the one where Jesus says to seek after money and the gates of heaven will be opened unto you.

Augustine (not my favorite dead Christian, but he knew a few things) wrote, "God is not what you imagine or what you think you understand. If you understand, you have failed."

A certain amount of uncertainty, humility and even doubt must be better than pretending to have all the answers.

Amen sister!
Remember: If we think the gospel is backing us up...we're right. But it's backing us up into a corner.

Have you seen the "hot Jesus" picture? He's in jeans and has tattoos.
